Brief profile:
Stany Banzimana is a procurement and health supply chain specialist with an MSc in Public Procurement Management for Sustainable Development from the University of Torino, Italy (2012). He is a PhD candidate researching vaccine supply chain management and system design in Kenya and Rwanda, and plans to extend the study to other EAC countries.
His work focuses on evaluating health supply chains and redesigning them so that vaccines and essential health commodities are available. He coordinated the regional study on EAC Pooled Bulk Procurement and Cross-border Supply Chain for Reproductive Health Commodities, funded by UK-DFID through the UNFPA ESARO Regional Office. From July 2020 to December 2021, he supported UNICEF Rwanda and the EPI Programme in assessing national COVID-19 vaccine readiness using the WHO/UNICEF VRAT and World Bank VRAF tools. He then contributed to the National Deployment Plan and to vaccine logistics management for COVAX. In 2023, as Senior National Consultant for UNICEF and the Rwanda Biomedical Centre, he led three national consultants on the nOPV2 polio supplementary immunization activities. His team managed all the logistics for the campaign, which followed the house-to-house strategy recommended by WHO.
Since 2014, he has been one of four University of Rwanda staff appointed to establish the EAC Regional Centre of Excellence for Vaccines, Immunization and Health Supply Chain Management (RCE-VIHSCM), which serves six EAC countries. He helped develop the Centre’s first Business Plan. He has served there as Strategic and Business Development Coordinator, Research Coordinator, and now Professional Training Specialist, developing and delivering short courses in vaccines, immunization and global health supply chain management. He is currently leading the Master's degree Programme in health Supply Chain Management.
At the University of Rwanda College of Business and Economics, he has served as Head of the BBA Procurement Department. He has also coordinated the Master’s in Public Procurement Management, a joint programme with the University of Torino and ITC-ILO. He teaches and researches procurement, logistics and supply chain management.
