Brief profile:
"Eng. Augustin Nsengimana is an Assistant Lecturer and agricultural engineering researcher at the University of Rwanda's College of Agriculture, Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine. He holds an MSc in Soil and Water Engineering and a BSc in Agricultural Engineering, with specialized expertise in irrigation systems design and evaluation, crop water management, and post-harvest technology. With a strong commitment to enhancing food security and agricultural productivity, Augustin combines academic excellence with practical experience. His research focuses on developing sustainable agricultural engineering solutions for small-holder farmers, including irrigation optimization, water use efficiency, and solar-powered agricultural systems. His published work addresses critical challenges in crop evapotranspiration modeling and irrigation scheduling. Augustin has gained international exposure through advanced training programs in Israel (2014) and India (2025), where he served as an invited speaker at the International Conference on Environmental Sustainability (ICES 2025). He is currently developing a PhD research proposal on low-cost, solar-powered cold storage units to reduce post-harvest losses for Rwanda's small-holder farmers. Fluent in multiple languages including English, French, and Kinyarwanda, Augustin brings both technical expertise and a passion for community-centered agricultural innovation to address food security challenges in Rwanda and the East African region."
