"Simon RUKERA-TABARO (PhD, MSc) serves since more than twenty years ago, as a University Senior Lecturer and Researcher in the field of Aquaculture, and Aquatic Resource Management. He is passionate with Integrated Agriculture–Aquaculture system easily applicable by rural farmers to improve their livelihood conditions without harming the environment. He is currently undertaking research about domestication of new species with high growth potential, in the Rwandan Aquaculture industry, starting by the carp “Cyprinus carpio”. He is also interested in finding high quality fish feed from low investment to reduce fish production cost. He holds a PhD degree in Aquaculture, Environment and Development (UKZN, SA); a MSc in Aquaculture, and a PGD in Inland freshwater Eco-Technology from the University of Liege, and University of Namur, Belgium respectively. Dr Rukera-Tabaro has teamed up with POSEIDON AQUACULTURE AND AQUATIC RESOURCES MANAGEMENT to compete for a strong and well-defined Aquaculture development Strategy to harness aquaculture production value chain of the Rwanda Aquaculture Industry and won the consultancy. His consultancy experience dating back from 2005 covers activities including development of Strategic and Business plan for fish farming and research stations, Wetland conversion in IAA system, Planning and implementing surveys for international research. A part from teaching, he has initiated and managed at least 3 MoUs and he led several educational programs development both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as professional short training programs. His core practical competencies include among many the Programs development (academic & professional), Integrated Agriculture – Aquaculture System (IAA) development and implementation with more focus on small livestock/Vegetable-cum-Fish in earthen ponds and/or Aquaponic system. Designing and implementing wetland conversion into Integrated Agriculture Aquaculture systems (IAA) with earthen ponds, Indoor Recirculation aquaculture system (RAS) establishment, Hapas building in ponds for fish reproduction, and Designing and implementing Cage aquaculture system development for freshwater aquaculture. Simon speaks fluently and write French, English, Swahili, and Kinyarwanda his mother tongue. "
