Brief profile:
I hold a Ph.D. from Xi’an Jiaotong University, an MSc from Tianjin Medical University, and a BSc in Nursing from the University of Asmara, specializing in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. With over 18 years of lecturing and research experience in higher education and many years as the Head of the School of Public Health (SPH), I have developed strong leadership and management skills.
As the HoD of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and SPH, I was responsible for conducting curriculum review, creating annual action plans, organizing and scheduling tasks, building teams, supervising staff, ensuring goals were met, managing resources, and sharing knowledge. I also reported progress to the Deans and provided suggestions for overcoming potential obstacles.
I have worked as a research consultant with the National and international CDC, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of MoH, WHO, UNICEF (WASH), and UNFPA in Eritrea and internationally. My research has covered areas such as violence, maternal and child health (EMONC), RCT of micronutrient supplementation during pregnancy (16-year follow-up of the China North Cohort), adolescent health, population health, nutrition, infectious diseases (malaria, HIV, STH), health facility needs assessment, and menstrual hygiene management (MHM).
My Ph.D. thesis, which focused on 33 sub-Saharan African countries, provided insights into the success and variations of healthcare utilization and outcomes across these countries. I have extensive experience in proposal writing, big data collection, management, analysis, and report writing. I am self-disciplined, possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and am adaptable to overcoming challenges with grace. I am always open to acquiring new knowledge and technological skills. Currently, I serve as a Senior lecturer and HoD of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the School of Public Health, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Rwanda, Rwanda Kigali.
