Richard KALISA, MBCh.B, M.Med (Peads &CH), MSc (HEP), PhD Richard Kalisa, MD, PhD, is a Senior Lecturer at School of Public health and Department of Pediatrics at University of Rwanda. He is a specialist medical doctor in pediatrics, health economist and public health. He has worked both as a consultant pediatrician for ten years in public and private hospitals in Rwanda and Kenya as well five years as public health specialist, health program management and implementation, and a university teacher in Rwanda. He also has a strong background in developing technical products (treatment guidelines, assessment tools, policy documents, training modules, SOPs etc), conducting monitoring and evaluation, partner engagement both local and international, lead implementation of high impact RMNCAH interventions from facility to community level aimed to strengthen and improve quality of care in RMNCAH services. I am passionate about improving the quality of life and health outcomes for pregnant women, neonates and children from low resource setting. He completed his medical degree at National University of Rwanda, two Master degrees in Master of Medicine in Pediatrics and Child Health from Makerere University and another in Health Economics and Policy from University of Nairobi, a PhD at Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam and postdoctoral fellowship in Global Health with a focus on social sciences for severely stigmatized skin diseases from Brighton and Sussex Medical School, UK. His core competencies include perinatal audits, mixed methodologies and clinical trials to improve quality of care for maternal, perinatal and child health. He co-authored 15 publications and supervised more than 20 post-graduate students on their thesis work.
