"Dr. Alice Muhayimana is a Registered Nurse and Midwife from Rwanda and an academic staff member at the University of Rwanda. Dr Alice is a Consortium for Advanced Research and Training in Africa (CARTA) graduate and she completed her PhD in Nursing Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, in 2024, focusing on Respectful Maternity Care (RMC). Prior to this, she earned her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a specialization in Maternal and Neonatal Health from Moi University, Kenya, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the former Kigali Health Institute in 2010. Notably, in 2004, she was recognized as the top-performing student in the country at the secondary level in Science in Nursing. Dr. Alice began her academic career in July 2010 at the University of Rwanda’s School of Nursing and Midwifery (SoNM). In addition to her teaching role, she serves as the co-chair of international and local partnerships at the school and track leader of neonatal nursing track in Masters program. Over the years, she has participated in various specialized trainings in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Family Planning, including both theoretical and practical components. Dr. Alice has significantly advanced the visibility of the SoNM by establishing partnerships with renowned international universities. She also provided technical support to the Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC) and the National Council of Nurses and Midwives (NCNM). Dr. Alice is a NCNM member of education committee. Dr Alice was the team leader of the scientific committee from organizing Rwanda Nurses and Midwives Union (RNMU) committee for the international conference which took place in December 2025. She has successfully supervised 14 MSN theses to completion, and is currently supervising 2 MSN students and two PhD students and 1 DNP student from Duke University. Dr Alice did clinical supervision of nursing students locally and abroad; she accompanied and supervised 3 undergraduate students at AZ Jan Palfijn, AZ Sint-Lucas in Ghent/ Belgium and 4 postgraduate at Saint Paul Millennium medical college hospital in Addis Ababa/Ethiopia. Her teaching portfolio includes modules on research, Sexual and Reproductive Health, and maternal and neonatal health. Dr. Alice is an active member of the Rwanda Association of Midwives and the Sigma Theta Tau International Society of Nursing. Dr. Alice is an active participant in international academic and professional forums. She has attended and presented her work at prestigious conferences, including: • Global learning speaker series at Utah University, USA (2025) • Internalization week at Artevelde University of Applied Sciences/ Ghent/ Belgium, 2025 • The Africa Interdisciplinary Health Conference (AFIHC) at Wits University, South Africa (2024). • The Council of International Neonatal Nurses (COINN) conference in Aalborg/Denmark (2024). • The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) conference in Paris, France (2023). • The European Association of Midwives (EMA) conference in Malmö, Sweden (2019). • The Belgium international midwifery week (2018). Dr. Alice has been extensively involved in research, with a strong focus on sexual reproductive health and women health. She has held several key research roles, including: • Principal Investigator (PI) for the project “Improving Knowledge on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights using Mass Open Online Course Among University of Rwanda Students,” funded by the Center for International Reproductive Health and Training (CIRHT) at the University of Michigan. • Principal Investigator in a UR-Sweden-funded project on Respectful Maternity Care. • Co-Investigator in the study “Male Partners’ Participation in Childbirth and Its Influence on Couples’ Immediate Postpartum Family Planning Initiation,” funded by King Faisal Hospital, Kigali. • Co-Investigator in international and digital midwifery workplace learning network project funded by VLIR-UOS • Co-Investigator in Blended teaching and learning methods in nursing and midwifery education funded by UNFPA. • Co-Investigator “Promoting the Successful Use of Sexual and Reproductive Health Services by Adolescents in Rwanda.” Funded by CIRHT-UM • Co-Investigator in “Enhancing Accessibility to Sexual and Reproductive Health Services and Rights: Inclusive Access among Teen Mothers in Rwamagana District, Rwanda.” Funded by CIRHT-UM Dr. Alice has authored or co-authored more than 20 publications , which are accessible on google scholar https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=DKRnCQ8AAAAJ&hl=en ResearchGate, https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Alice-Muhayimana/research; and her ORCID profile : https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5318-497X "
