Brief profile:
Jean Marie Vianney Niyigena is an Agricultural Engineer and early-career researcher specializing in soil and water engineering, agricultural mechanization, and sustainable farming systems. He holds a Master of Science in Agricultural Engineering (Soil and Water Engineering) and a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Agricultural Mechanization from the University of Rwanda. His academic training is strongly grounded in applying engineering solutions to real-world agricultural and environmental challenges
Research Area:
My research interests focus on irrigation management, post-harvest loss reduction, mechanization for smallholder farmers, environmental pollution in agricultural wetlands, and data-driven value chain development. He has practical experience integrating field agronomy, irrigation engineering, and geospatial analysis to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability. His published work on post-harvest loss reduction in Irish potato production highlights the link between improved handling practices and national food security outcomes in Rwanda
