Brief profile:
I am an Associate Professor and Head of Construction Economics and Management department at the University of Rwanda, with over 19 years of teaching and research experience across Nigeria, South Africa, and Rwanda. I hold an HND, BSc, MSc, and PhD in Building and Construction Management, along with a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. My teaching philosophy is rooted in the learner-centred approach, informed by constructivist and social learning theories. I focus on fostering active and collaborative learning, where students engage with real-world challenges and take ownership of their academic journey. I also emphasize the importance of lifelong learning, equipping students with the tools needed for continuous professional growth. From 2017 to 2020, I was awarded a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Johannesburg through the Global Excellence Stature Award, where I focused on advancing sustainable construction practices and digital transitioning. I have authored over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles, 13 conference papers, 3 book chapters, and a research book, with my research focusing on digital transitioning, sustainability, and Industry 4.0/5.0 in construction management. I am a Principal Investigator on a USD 49,000 CMU-Afretec research grant for the 2025 cycle. The grant pushes the boundaries of AI in the African construction industry. It is executed between Rwanda and Nigeria by astute scholars from University of Rwanda, University of Lagos, and Carnegie Mellon University, Africa. As Head of Department, I have led numerous academic and administrative initiatives, contributing to curriculum development, staff development, and academic governance. Through my leadership roles on various committees, we have achieved outcomes such as: (I). Increasing the number of PhD holders within our faculty and enhancing the academic writing productivity of junior staff, leading to greater success in grants and scholarships. (Ii). Ensuring accurate student results and improved academic processes through collaboration with the College Academic Council. (III). Developing new postgraduate programs that better align with industry needs, while adapting existing programs to ensure their relevance in the ever-evolving construction sector. In addition to my academic leadership, I actively collaborate with industry leaders to apply emerging technologies in construction projects, ensuring the practical application of my research. I am also passionate about bridging academia and industry, and I seek opportunities for academic partnerships and industry collaborations that drive the future of construction management and sustainable infrastructure development.
