Brief profile:
Dr. Niyonzima Jean de Dieu is a physicist and materials scientist specializing in soft condensed matter physics, nanostructured thin films, and advanced X-ray characterization techniques. He currently serves as a lecturer in the Department of Physics at the University of Rwanda, College of Science and Technology, where he contributes to teaching, graduate supervision, and the advancement of research in materials science and nanotechnology.
He earned a PhD in Physics and Chemistry of Materials from Sorbonne University (France) at the Institut des NanoSciences de Paris (INSP), where his doctoral research focused on topological defects in smectic liquid-crystal thin films. His work investigates the structure and dynamics of nanostructured surfaces and thin films, using synchrotron-based techniques, particularly grazing incidence small-angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS). His research contributes to the fundamental understanding of self-organized materials and their potential applications in nanotechnology and functional materials.
Dr. Niyonzima obtained a Master of Science in Mathematical Sciences with Distinction from the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS Rwanda) and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Rwanda. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including Physical Review Letters, Soft Matter, and Surfaces and Interfaces. He has presented his research at international scientific conferences and workshops in Europe and North America, contributing to scholarly discussions in soft condensed matter physics and materials science.
