Agriculture

Integration of urban organic waste stream into integrated agriculture (climate smart agriculture production systems).

This project seeks to address the challenge of waste management while strengthening farming by integrating urban organic waste stream into integrated agriculture by reducing greenhouse gas, addressing environmental pollution, reducing land required, reducing waste management cost, providing nutrients for soil as well as generating animal feed protein products will be addressed in this innovation project

Innovation through Bee farming as an Indigenous knowledge practice: The way forward for Poverty reduction in Rwanda.

The project will exploit local knowledge of the beneficiaries, namely the Bee keepers with knowledge about bee keeping in addition, the project aims at introducing innovative information and communication technology solution that will help bee farmers monitor in real time the conditions inside the hives. This solution will be developed using sensors of temperature and humidity.

Solar powered maize drying system

Having seen that farmers growing staple crops especially maize growers are constantly suffering from post-harvest losses (22%of total produce), due to poor handling techniques. this project developed a solar powered drying system from recent existing models, and is capable of trapping and fixing incoming solar radiation such that it develops a peak temperature of 50 degree Celsius and dry in three hours, instead of four weeks.
