"Dr. Uwimana Philomene, PhD, RN is an experienced nurse educator and academic leader dedicated to advancing nursing education and interprofessional collaboration in healthcare. She is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Rwanda, she has occupied progressively senior positions from being a clinical instructor to coordinator of the skills laboratory, and to director of simulation and clinical skills centre, currently she is the Deputy Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery. Dr. Philomenehe is involved in teaching graduate nurse students (pediatric track), preparing the next generation of nurse leaders, educators, and advanced practice clinicians. Her research interests are mainly focused on maternal, newborn and child health, Pain management Education, interprofessional education and collaborative practice for healthcare professionals, and innovations in healthcare professionals’ education using simulation-based education.
With a background as the Director of Simulation and Clinical Skills centre, she has an extensive expertise in using innovative, experiential learning strategies to enhance clinical education, her leadership in simulation-based education has helped bridge the gap between theory and practice, improving patient outcomes and fostering teamwork across healthcare disciplines. A passionate advocate for interprofessional education (IPE), Dr. Philomene is committed to breaking down silos in healthcare training and promoting collaborative learning among nursing, medicine, and allied health professions. She actively engage in academic scholarship, faculty development, and policy initiatives aimed at strengthening healthcare education and patient care.
Dr. Philomene was appointed to national and international working groups, and she is member of national and international professional societies. She is a member of the Education Committee of the National Council of Nurses and Midwives (Rwanda), member of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) Childhood SIG, and governance board member of the Honor Society of Nursing Sigma Theta Tau International, African Region- Alpha Beta Beta Chapter.
She also has a track record of research and associated publications in the field of pain management education, and health professionals education.
