Brief about: Rev. Dr. Nathan Kanuma Taremwa He is the Director of Research and Innovation (DRI) at the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Sciences (CAFF), University of Rwanda. Nathan is the Founding Head of the Department of Rural Development and Agricultural Economics (RDAE) previously known as the Department of Rural Development and Agribusiness (RDA), School of Agriculture and Food Sciences (SAFS). He is the promoter of Circular Economy in Rwanda and he successfully initiated and coordinated the new Master’s Degree programme in Circular Agro-Economy (MSc.CAE) at the University of Rwanda. He serves also as a Senior Lecturer. Nathan’s expertise encompasses leadership development and knowledge society, traditional ecological knowledge, entrepreneurship, agribusiness and the circular economy and he holds a PhD in Agribusiness Management from Kenyatta University (KU). Nathan has served as the Secretary General for the Rwanda Quality Assurance Network (RWAQAN) and as the Country Representative for the East Africa Quality Assurance Network (EAQAN). Nathan is supervising PhD students at the University of Rwanda including those under the ENTRUST-UR-Sweden sub-programme. Beyond academia, he is an influential leader in the religious community, serving as an Associate Senior Pastor at City Light, Foursquare Gospel Church of Rwanda (Kimironko Parish). Nathan is the Principal Investigator (PI) for the Universities Promoting Linkages for Impactful Training, Innovation, and Technology Transfer in Agriculture (UPLIFT-AG) project in Rwanda. He is the team leader of other impactful projects on including the “Advancing Sustainable Economic Development in Rwanda through Circular Agro-Economy (Rwanda CAE)”. Also, he is playing a pivotal role in the Capacity Strengthening in Technology Transfer and Commercialization of University Intellectual Property (TT-CUIP) project. His commitment to advancing knowledge and fostering innovation is evident through his research and numerous collaborations with prestigious institutions. Nathan is an Executive Committee Member at the Africa Institute for Indigenous Knowledge Systems (AIIKS) hosted by the University of KwaZulu Natal (UKZN), South Africa since 2020 and he is the focal person for the University of Rwanda on matters traditional ecological knowledge (traditional knowledge) and disaster risk reduction and management through the University of Rwanda’s Center of Biodiversity and Natural Resources Management (CoEB).
