"Dr. Jean Pierre is a veterinary public health and food safety expert with over 10 years of experience supporting government, development partners, and private sector actors in strengthening animal health systems and agri-food value chains in Rwanda. His technical expertise spans livestock production, disease control, meat and milk hygiene, laboratory systems, sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) compliance, and strategic sector planning. He has served as a lead consultant on national assignments, including drafting the Animal Resources component of Rwanda’s Strategic Plan for Agriculture Transformation (PSTA5), developing training curricula and manuals for veterinary and meat inspection personnel, conducting impact assessments for livestock-based farmer field schools, and building capacity in HACCP and food safety protocols for processors and inspectors. Dr. Jean Pierre is highly experienced in stakeholder engagement, policy and regulatory alignment, training-of-trainers, and participatory research methods. He has designed and delivered national- and district-level training programs targeting veterinarians, meat and dairy processors, butchers, milk collection centre (MCC) staff, and farmers. His work has contributed to improved certification, disease prevention, and operational efficiency across the livestock sector. With more than 16 years in academia, he also teaches animal science and supervises research, while continuing to consult on projects in food safety, animal production systems, laboratory setup, and value chain analysis.
