Jean Mutabaruka is a distinguished academic affiliated with the University of Rwanda, where he has contributed significantly to the fields of psychopathology, psychology and mental health from 2004 to now. His research interests encompass areas such as psychopathology, psychometrics, and research methods, reflecting his comprehensive approach to understanding psychological disorders and their treatment. His research primarily focuses on the psychological well-being of vulnerable populations, including children and the elderly, particularly in the context of Rwanda's historical challenges. In 2023, Mutabaruka published several impactful studies, including an exploration of the mediating role of anxiety in the relationship between negative feelings and depression among students with congenital physical disabilities, and a randomized controlled trial assessing the efficacy of narrative therapy for orphaned and abandoned children facing anxiety and attention deficit disorders. His work has been instrumental in shedding light on the prevalence and family determinants of geriatric depression among elderly individuals in support groups across Rwanda. Mutabaruka's academic contributions extend beyond Rwanda, having briefly collaborated with the Université Fédérale Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées in France.
