Associate Professional Jean Baptiste Sagahutu is a distinguished academic and healthcare professional, currently serving as the Dean of the School of Health Sciences at the University of Rwanda's College of Medicine and Health Sciences. With a strong foundation in disability and rehabilitation, he has made significant contributions to the field, both nationally and internationally. Sagahutu holds a PhD in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. His expertise lies in disability and rehabilitation, interprofessional education and collaborative practice, and community-based rehabilitation (CBR). He served as the Postgraduate Coordinator in the School of Health Sciences for six years, where he actively mentored and guided postgraduate students. Currently, he is supervising five PhD students across Rwanda, Canada, and Scotland, with three of them having already successfully completed their degrees. Sagahutu has been instrumental in shaping national healthcare policies and guidelines related to disability and rehabilitation. He has played a key role in developing: National Rehabilitation Strategic Plan, National Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Guidelines, National Guidelines for Clubfoot, Flatfoot, Angular Knee Deformity, and Cerebral Palsy Management. His expertise has been sought after through various consultancies in Rwanda and Burundi, where he has provided valuable insights and recommendations to improve disability and rehabilitation services. Sagahutu's research has been widely recognized and published in prestigious international journals. He has authored 23 scientific papers in indexed journals and serves as a reviewer for several reputable journals, including the Rwanda Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences, South Africa Journal of Physiotherapy, Disability and Rehabilitation, and Interdisciplinary Health Sciences. Beyond his academic and research pursuits, Sagahutu is actively involved in organizing and chairing conferences, such as the Rwanda Rehabilitation Conference. His dedication to fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration among healthcare professionals has made him a respected figure in the field.
