Brief profile: 
Jean Leonard Buhigiro is a lecturer of history in the Department of Humanities and Language Education at the University of Rwanda and Coordinator of Postgraduate Studies in the School of Education. He completed his PhD in history education at the University of KwaZulu-Natal; his Master’s degree in Arts (History) at the University of Stellenbosch (South Africa) and a bachelor’s degree in Arts (History) at Université Nationale du Rwanda. He is also a Fulbright Alumni on American Civilisation (New York University). His area of interest is the teaching of difficult/controversial histories, and he has presented papers at national and international conferences on teaching the Genocide against the Tutsi. Another interest is the history of international relations, and his study was on the Changing role and identity of the Nonaligned Movement (1955–1998).
