Potential of nanotechnology in Agriculture and crop protection: Precision agriculture

This innovation project is about precision farming using none-technology based wireless sensor network. The nanotechnology electronics has potential to improve the quality, safety and availability of the food that we eat. Developing and implementing such application will involve the design and fabrication of biologically sensitive none-sensor for detection of specific chemical/ biochemical signals, and macro-, nanoelectromechanical actuators that can respond to those signals

Integration of urban organic waste stream into integrated agriculture (climate smart agriculture production systems).

This project seeks to address the challenge of waste management while strengthening farming by integrating urban organic waste stream into integrated agriculture by reducing greenhouse gas, addressing environmental pollution, reducing land required, reducing waste management cost, providing nutrients for soil as well as generating animal feed protein products will be addressed in this innovation project

Innovation through Bee farming as an Indigenous knowledge practice: The way forward for Poverty reduction in Rwanda.

The project will exploit local knowledge of the beneficiaries, namely the Bee keepers with knowledge about bee keeping in addition, the project aims at introducing innovative information and communication technology solution that will help bee farmers monitor in real time the conditions inside the hives. This solution will be developed using sensors of temperature and humidity.

Solar powered maize drying system

Having seen that farmers growing staple crops especially maize growers are constantly suffering from post-harvest losses (22%of total produce), due to poor handling techniques. this project developed a solar powered drying system from recent existing models, and is capable of trapping and fixing incoming solar radiation such that it develops a peak temperature of 50 degree Celsius and dry in three hours, instead of four weeks.

Umuhuza TV Production

The innovative aspects of the project consist in production of some elements of tangible culture of Rwanda, preserving cultural heritage focusing mainly on tourism & historical sites. The sites include ancient Rwanda King's residences, use of historical heritage in tourism development.

Implementing ‘4-in-1 Model’ to accelerate quadri literacy and community literacy in Kayonza and Nyagatare Districts.

This project seeks solve the problem of illiteracy in Rwanda, for people with limited literacy in four languages, namely Kinyarwanda, English, French and Kiswahili. It will be applying ‘4-in-1 Model’. The Model has proven to boost such quadrilingual literacy in the piloted two sectors of Kayonza district and we want to cross-check its effectiveness in other 4 sectors.

TWIS skills among children using book reading with web application.

The innovation consists in web app, a repository of high-quality stories in Kinyarwanda for kids in primary schools.  The highly interactive and friendly application recommends resources to students according level of reading, preference and age. At the end of each story, students take quizzes to assess their comprehension. Each teacher can track the progress of their students and hence be able to help them accordingly

Group for Identification and Assessment of Special Educational Needs for Inclusion.

The project is about social innovation consisting in assessing the children’s special needs, provision of educational interventions to teachers, learners and other educational stakeholders and providing assistive devices (made from local environment) to learners with physical disabilities, provision of guidance and counselling to the parents, teachers, children who have special needs.
